Today marks the final of three Jupiter-Saturn opening squares in 2024/2025. And with both signs still in their early days of their new signs, it could bring a fresh new energy to the tension. Hold onto your hats and get ready to make some magick.
Jupiter and Saturn are the two ‘social’ planets. They bridge the gap between the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) and the generational planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto). Their effect is often expressed via events that affect us socially. They provide opportunities for development, both individually and collectively.
Jupiter is the planet of growth and expansion. It is the Truth seeker. It carries the themes of philosophical and spiritual exploration, broadening perspectives, international travel and foreign cultures, and legal concerns. It is often optimistic and has a tendency to attract good fortune.
Saturn is the planet of limitation and constriction. It is the patriarchal disciplinarian. It carries the themes of maturation, structure, tradition. It is serious and pragmatic and tends to attract tests to help us evaluate where we are limiting ourselves or where we are lacking effective systems for development.
In essence, these two planets are binary expressions. And when they are squaring each other, they can create a dynamic tension that is intense enough to motivate us mere humans into taking some much-needed action toward our own personal evolution. It can force us to marry optimism with realism in order to discover some expansive and creative solutions to mundane problems.
The first of these squares took place back in mid-August of last year. At this time, Jupiter was direct in Gemini, and Saturn was Retrograde in Pisces. (Mars was conjunct Jupiter at this square, adding some impatience and aggressive tendencies.)
The second square occurred on Christmas Eve of last year, when Jupiter was Retrograde in Gemini, and Saturn was direct in Pisces.
Today, at this final square, both planets are direct and in new signs. Jupiter is newly in Cancer and Saturn is newly in Aries. The dynamics are different now. While the mechanics are the same, the flavors of the energies have changed. Neptune is conjunct Saturn at this square bringing the potential for confusion as well as compassion and creativity.
Jupiter in Cancer brings an expansion in compassion, nurturing and maternal instincts. The Sabian Symbol for this placement is A Man On A Magic Carpet Observes Vast Vistas Below. Saturn in Aries brings decisiveness and assertiveness and influential charisma (aura farming). The Sabian Symbol for this placement is A Comedian Entertaining a Group Of Friends. This square brings an opportunity for radical honesty and truth-telling. It’s asking us to rise above the human tendency to mask our truths with laughter and sarcasm. It’s asking us to look at where we trivialize what is true and meaningful in an effort to (consciously or not) play small. It’s asking us to broaden our perspectives, trusting that we will find our aligned audience while being held safely and securely by our own magic (carpets). And because it’s a square—aspect of tension and discord—it may feel a little spicy, sparky, challenging. But the reward will be worth the effort.
To truly bring your vision (Jupiter) into manifest reality (Saturn), you must be willing to get radically honest with yourself about why you hold this particular vision and what is realistically possible for its creation.
What will you do with this energy? Will you let it push you toward greater truth and more boundaried systems of social engagement? Remember to take advantage of that Neptune conjunction energy. Aim for more compassion, tolerance, and inclusivity without negotiating your truth. And be wary of triggers to falsify data or escape into oblivion. When tempted, seek out some practical tools for self-care in order to find balance among the binaries.
However it plays out for you, I hope it ultimately helps you bring greater truth to the legacy you’re creating. As always, I’m here if you need some support! xoxo 💋
