The New Moon in Pisces is upon us! The lunation occurs at 7:45p (EST) tonight at 9° Pisces with a Sabian Symbol of An Aviator In The Clouds.
As you likely already know, New Moons brings new beginnings. They create a fresh canvas upon which to paint our intentions for the cycle. It’s not so much a new canvas, as it’s a fresh coat of whitewash over the old paintings that came before. In this way, it’s a new beginning, but one that builds upon the experiences that came before. So, it’s not like you’re flying blind at the New Moon.
In fact, at this Pisces New Moon, you’re flying with the seasoned experience of An Aviator In The Clouds. This is the Sabian Symbol of this lunation and it has a wonderful sense of security and spirit of adventure riding along with it. There is an indication of the piqued curiosity of the explorer at this Moon. But it’s tempered with the wisdom and practicality that repetition and practice bring to the table. One does not become an aviator without a great deal of practice. Pilots must log countless successful flight hours in order to gain their license to fly. This is a great metaphor for life: It’s a series of test-runs that, over time, give us the stamina and wisdom of experience needed to successfully elevate ourselves. We may never be able to completely remove the chances of crashing and burning, especially when flying through the canopy of clouds, but with continued practice, the likelihood of that happening becomes smaller and smaller.
Pisces is a very dreamy and highly sensitive sign. It is emotional and changeable, and can be unpredictable as the sea. But, like the sea, if you can find a way to surrender to it—to stop fighting against it—you may find that you are held in the most supportive way.
Pisces season can bring a lot of emotions to the surface. It is the final sign in the zodiac and carries an energy of death and rebirth. It is the liminal space that resides just after the end and just before the next beginning. Like the space between the exhale and the inhale. It is timeless and instantaneous and not easily quantifiable. When dealing with Pisces you may find yourself plumbing the depths of your inner emotional waters. You may find yourself expanding out into the untethered spaciousness of higher consciousness. You may even find yourself traveling to far off places—literally or figuratively. Your dreams may become more meaningful, or even just more vivid. You may feel your distraction actions calling to you in an effort to escape the intensity of all Pisces is opening up for you. (Pisces is the sign where addictive behaviors can really run rampant.) But it’s also a highly reflective and creative sign. It gives you the opportunity to reflect on all the experiences met during the turning of the zodiacal wheel; to feel into what was gained and lost during the journey; to make preparations for moving forward into the next cycle. If you can muster the courage to bravely feel all the feelings that come with such an invitation, you’re likely to find yourself well-poised for a smoother entry into Aries’ fiery initiation next month. Like the Aviator in the Sabian Symbol, it’s an excellent opportunity to shift your perspective; to see how high you’ve climbed; and to use this enhanced vision to start charting your next course.
Interestingly, this New Moon chart has Neptune, Pisces’ modern ruler, as its sole dispositor. This basically just means that Neptune will be adding a little underlying flavoring to every celestial body’s expression at this time. Even the most steady and practical aspects of life and self might feel a little muddled or nebulous now. You get to choose if this acts a lens of illusion and lies, or as a way of diffusing the image so you can take in the beauty and wisdom of the abstract expression of the thing itself. It also may amplify the power of this Moon for the moment. (Especially since Neptune is still in domicile in Pisces.)
In fact, right now, there’s a jam-packed stellium in Pisces. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune, and the North Node are all floating in these waters at this moment. Be prepared for some emotional swells. For those of you who, like me, identify as Highly Sensitive People, you may want to buckle your safety belt and grab a helmet and a hankie. But, remember, the more you can surrender to the crescendos of the emotional waves, the more likely you are to be carried on them with safety and ease. Try to fight, and you risk getting pummeled by the turbulence or simply drowning from exhaustion.
If you can manage the surrender to the emotional sensitivity, you will find it brings you the treasures of imaginative creativity and spiritual connection with all of life.
A square to Jupiter in Gemini can exaggerate all this emotional energy. It can lead to overthinking and overanalyzing all that emotional depth that’s coursing through your awareness (consciously or not). When you find yourself in that mental grind of continually trying to churn out answers to all the possible questions, it’s a good time to once again revisit the idea of surrendering. All that mental cloud cover will soon disperse. Take some time to yourself. Clear your energy. Regulate your nervous system. Reconnect with your breath. Remember that you have a lifetime of experience navigating this kind of weather. And give yourself grace.
Mars is direct now, in emotional Cancer. It’s squaring Black Moon Lilith. Jupiter and Pluto are both making trines to BML. Lilith is rebellious and sometimes vengeful. She’s being supported by the bigness of Jupiter and the power of Pluto. She’s being challenged by Mars’ drive to do something, which is a little hampered by the fact He’s in His fall in Cancer. You may feel like you have a burning energy to rail against something you see as unjust, but you may find yourself so emotional that you don’t know exactly where to put your righteous anger. What to do? Yep … surrender. Let go. At least a little bit. Ask your body to soften; your fists to uncurl. Brrreeeeaaattthhheee. And see what it’s like to float on those waves of rage or indignation or disappointment.
Pisces season can sometimes lie. It can be misleading. It’s the land of illusion. It’s slippery and nebulous and can sometimes feel like walking through a house of mirrors or a foggy bog on a dark night in the deep Creole bayou. It can be difficult to keep your wits about you. Don’t fall prey to the seduction of the illusion. You may end up fighting shadows that aren’t really there.
Surrender. Go with the flow. Feel your feelings, but take a beat (or three) before you act on them. This is how to keep your vessel from crashing. And, if it helps, you can remind yourself that we’re all in this together. We’re all navigating the same unpredictable seas. We are all trying to keep our proverbial planes safely soaring in the clouds. Everyone is doing the best they can do. Have grace. Hold space. And surrender. xoxo
