Gemini New Moon: Drink From The Well

Gemini season is already in swing, and tonight—at 11:02p EDT— the New Moon arrives at 6° Gemini. 

When Gemini makes the scene, things tend to speed up. There’s an increase in social chatter and curiosity comes alive. A New Moon in Gemini can be a time to start something new that could use a little of this energy behind it. 

The Sabian Symbol for this lunation is An Old Fashioned Well. This image conjures the notion of turning to elders for some of that hard-earned wisdom that only comes from long years of life experience. Those who have walked this earth longer than we have, or walked it before we have, can offer some deep and reflective insights into the many different ways there are to interface with life. They also can help us recognize just how cyclical life can be, sharing reminiscences of similar experiences—golden eras and desperate times—that carry many of the themes of our own current times. 

Don’t be afraid to turn to those who have already lived through their share of memories in order to gain some perspective on your own current challenges. You may also be well served by dropping into your own depths of experience. Remember how far you’ve come on your journey; how many challenges you’ve successfully navigated thus far. And also remember how it feels to be in the midst of challenge and change. This can be a reminder that a little support can go a long way. Sometimes you are lucky enough to receive support, and sometimes you can offer that support to someone else in need. 

Both Mercury and Uranus are in the mix at this New Moon. Prepare yourself for some surprises, especially when it comes to communication and perception. And don't be afraid to express your own thoughts and opinions, even (and especially) if they are outside the accepted norm. 

There’s a stellium piling up in Aries with Venus and Chiron on one end and Neptune and Saturn on the other. That’s a lot happening in the sign of initiation, action, and aggression. Then there’s a Minor Triangle to Saturn and Neptune bringing this already heightened energy into even stronger focus. Mars is making an exact square with Black Moon Lilith adding even more fodder to the fire. Mars rules Aries. He wants to move. He’s feisty and impulsive and a little rowdy when not contained. Black Moon Lilith is rebellious and fierce. A square between these two can feel a bit like a powder keg situated near an open flame. If used consciously and constructively, this energy could help you move through some trauma that has been holding you back for some time. But without conscious guidance, this energy could become carelessly explosive and destructive. 

A trine between the New Moon stellium and Pluto gives a little needed support, bringing the opportunity for diplomatic communications and connections amidst all this fiery energy. But be careful, again, to take a conscious engagement with these energies. Otherwise you risk fanning the flames with all that air. 

Should you find things getting a little too heated under this New Moon, find your way to the nearest ‘well’. Allowing yourself to go deep—either with yourself or with someone else—can bring you some fresh perspective as well as some tolerance and patience for the world around you. The world may be a shit show, but there’s almost always new growth and order in the wake of the chaos. If you can keep your wits about you, and mind your impulsive urges, you should emerge unscathed.
