New Moon in Pisces

Tomorrow brings us the New Moon in the astrological sign of Pisces. New Moons mark the inception of the Moon’s cycle of phases. We begin with the New Moon through the waxing (growing) phase of the Moon’s light to the Full Moon, then through the waning (diminishing) phase to the darkness of the Balsamic Moon.

New Moons, being beginnings, represent the energy of beginnings, fresh starts, blank slates. This is a moment of undiluted and as yet undirected potential. This is why we set intentions at the New Moon phase. It gives us an opportunity to set a goal and to nurse that goal energetically with the cosmic support of the Moon’s waxing power. At the Full Moon we can consider our intention manifested. (And during the waning half of the cycle we can use the Moon’s return to darkness to turn our gazes inward as we reflect on how we feel about the outcome and how we might change things moving forward.

Pisces energy flavors this Moon cycle. Pisces is very dreamy, watery energy. She (yes, Pisces is on the feminine side of the binary spectrum) is emotional, sensitive and intuitive. She is represented by the glyph (symbol) of two fish swimming in opposite directions—much in a yin-yang formation. This points to Her ability to go with the flow wherever it takes Her. Pisces is a mutable sign, and is, therefore, open to changing her mind about things. She’s never rigid, always smoothly wrapping Herself around the obstacles She encounters to feel what it might be like to live with or to be the obstacle. The obstacle transforms Her in this way, and she takes the wisdom of the experience with Her as She flows along on Her way.

Pisces is the last sign in the zodiac. As such, She carries a little of each of the signs' energies that have come before Her. She understands that we are all One and we are all divine and we are all flowing toward the same Universal sea of consciousness.

Pisces can be very private and internal. She has played witness to a great many things while waiting at the end of the wheel. This gives Her much to process, integrate and embody. And as She does so, She becomes transformed into a deeper and richer version of Herself.

She speaks in the language of dreams, symbols and feelings.

This New Moon in Pisces is conjunct Jupiter. Conjunctions are aspects that occur when planets are within ~10 degrees of each other in the same house and/or astrological sign. They create a blending of the planets’ energies. Jupiter blending with the New Moon can bring some ebullient expansiveness to our emotional landscapes. Expect a little well-earned hope at this time. We may also find a broadening of our emotional range during this time, but it’ll likely feel lighter rather than the heaviness we’ve become accustomed to over the past couple years.

The New Moon is also sextile Uranus in Taurus. Sextiles are aspects occurring when two planets are ~60 degrees apart. It is a cooperative aspect, creating a sense of flow and collaboration between the two planets’ energies. Uranus holds the energy of innovation, rebellion, differentiation and collective progress. It can be sudden or surprising in its manifestation. This sextile may offer new opportunities to reinforce these new feelings of hope. It may also favor new business or contractual endeavors as well as transpersonal encounters, especially those with a spiritual component, thanks to the corresponding sextile between Uranus and Jupiter.

Now is the time to open up to a moment of respite from all the oppressive, isolating and constricting energy that’s been putting us through the grinder of late. (It's still there, though ... look at all that Capricorn energy!) The cosmos is offering up a moment of hope for something fresh and new and more evolved. Pay attention to new people and/or opportunities that show up in your path during this New Moon. Use your intuition to gauge which of these you feel called to pursue, then trust that you are Universally supported in your efforts. It would also behoove you to pay attention to your dreams. They may have some valuable information to help you harness the magick of this moment, as well.
